What is Fibre Optic Splicing?
If you are not yet quite sure whether or not you are in need of some fibre optic splicing, it might be helpful to first look into what exactly it is and when it might be necessary. Essentially, fibre optic splicing is the process of joining together two fibre optic cables. This can be handy in a number of circumstances, and there are two main ways in which it can be done, both of which we are perfectly happy to offer as a standard service:
- Fusion splicing is where the two fibres are actually welded together, and it is a permanent connection that is not going to be broken whatsoever. There are many types of fusion splicer that can be used, and you can be sure that we only ever use the best available to ensure the best job every time. With fusion splicing, there is a very low loss ratio and less reflectance. It is generally regarded as the best way of fusing two optics together.
- Alternatively, there is mechanical splicing, which can be a lot quicker and easier to carry out, but is not permanent and doesn’t provide the best connection unlike fusion splicing. The two are joined here in a self-contained assembly, which can be useful in its own way.
